I saw this eagle this morning in an Angus glen. It looks to be radio tagged. I am wondering if there is any way of tracing its history/origins?

Thanks @jenks86 I have already done that, but then noticed that he is only looking for reports from England and Wales. He may have some info though. I'll post anything that is not sensitive if I get anything back.

Given the previous wanderings, there is a good chance it is a bird from the IoW project. Roy is the co-ordinator for the whole of the UK i believe so even if not one of his projects, if its a wild bird he should know who's study its part of.

Well that's fairly dumb. You either want to know where your study animals are going or you don't. If they all flew back to Scotland (I know they haven't) where would he be? It smacks of: "la la la, I'm not listening to anything that suggests this might not work".

Jumping the gun a bit. The OP has not yet received a reply as to where the bird was tagged, nor where it has been seen. And to clarify things, the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation is not just the eminent Mr. Dennis himself, but a whole team of dedicated staff, so the use of "he" in these replies suggests that only "he" (i.e. Roy Dennis) would reply. I am quite confident that the OP will receive a reply, even if only to stay that they don't know or the bird is from another project. Who knows, it could have wandered from the Continent? If it is a functioning satellite tag then I am sure the project will be fully aware of the bird's whereabouts. Much of this will be confidential info, not least taking the shocking and diabolical record of raptor persecution in the UK.

Read the link posted by the OP, though: to be absolutely clear for those who can't be bothered, what it says is: "If you have seen and photographed a White-tailed Eagle in England or Wales please send us details and upload your photograph using this form." That request excludes Scotland and Northern Ireland, not to mention the world outside the UK.

I get that they don't want to be inundated with photos of Scottish WTE but there remains the question of wandering IOW birds, which are unlikely to respect land borders. Perhaps my question should be "is there an intention to record individual WTE from the IOW wherever they travel and if not why not?"

Fair point. I am sure they want records of Isle of Wight birds wherever they are seen, and maybe they need to reword the text accordingly. And I am sure that they won't mind if they recieve records of Scottish WTEs, but they can forward the records to other projects.

Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation did get back to me. They had one of their Isle of Wight birds in that area, but believe that my photo is of a bird that originates in Angus.
