now my question is i'm in connecticut whats the best type of fruit/jelly to put out there? The lady at the bird store told me grapefruit is good and oranges are good. But all I can imagine is a swarm of bees at the fruit. any tips? tricks? etc.

In the spring I put out orange halves and grape jelly. After the orioles passes through, I kept the grape jelly out for the catbirds. First problem was ants, after I solved that problem, by putting water between ants and jelly, the hornets struck! The catbirds wouldn't come near, so I tried moving the dish and the hornets found it. So in the end I had to stop feeding the birds jelly. They don't seem to mind tho, they are still around getting bugs out of the garden.
