Plague of the Ring Necked Parakeets (1 Viewer)

doesn't the RNP have a penchant for communal roosting meaning we could knock loads over at once with a well-timed midnight pre-emptive strike?

I bet you're imagining yourself in a helicopter gunship with 'Ride of the Valkries' palying in the background, aren't you...?

;)

Indeed: according to a Dutch survey, they tend to lose when competing with Jackdaws and Green Woodpeckers (that use similar-sized holes).

Unfortunately not the case here as they win against Jackdaws and WP and have driven out the Tawney Owls from Bushy Park.

I like the suggestion for a couple of Goshawks to be released in SW London....in fact a couple of pairs might help!
Thats why you havent seen any in Cheltenham!
Actually what does predate them?

Eagles?

There are far too many now in SW London/Surrey and it would be good if something could eat a few!;)

LOL - a napalm strike accross South london's parks may cause a little too much collateral damage!

More seriously though I would've thought netting at the roosts might be a viable option if the time comes....

Amazed they haven't established here, supposedly we have a few escapes in circulation.

Peregrine Fodder

Peregrines eat them ... what's more, the incredibly violent impact at the termination of a stoop often causes a gorgeous eruption of green and yellow feathers to flutter to earth, an ornithological firework show if you will.

The temptation to applaud is almost overwhelming.

I bet that's a sight to see Des.

I suppose proof that control is possible if desired can be taken from the absence of the Carolina Parakeet from any of our life lists?

It's on my list - I scored one on a recent day-trip to look for Ivory-bills. Bloody peckers were elusive though.
