Pipit ID - UK October (1 Viewer)

Bird has distinct pale lores, obvious eye ring, broad whitish buff wing bars, fine streaking, slender pale based bill and rather buffish tones below, perhaps I'm not drunk enough.....

and dark legs! don't forget the dark legs. oh, and the fact it isn't very streaky on the back - and seems to have a few streaks on the rump - none of which is any good for meadow. Logically, you've got yourself a rubescens buff-bellied.

I was photographing Rock Pipits on Bryher, Scilly on Friday after not seeing Blackpoll Warbler and rattled off a few of the nearer birds on the west side of the island. Only downloaded them this evening and just thought 'bugger' the minute I saw this set.....

just been going through my guide and for all the reasons above I was looking at the Buff Bellied. (A good excuse to improve knowledge) Glad to see others asking the question but more than happy to be slapped round the face for getting it wrong.

just edited a couple more....

Its just gone out on the pager as Buff-bellied Pipit, presumably from this thread

Shots were taken as I was photographing Rock Pipits hand held in passing a small seaweed strewn porth as I was returning for the afternoon boat back to St Mary's.

I forgot all about it until I got home, downloaded the last images from camera, saw the pics and as above thought 'bugger'. Really should have paid more attention at the time, all other shots book ending this bird are of typical Rock Pipits.

This means I've seen 4 Buff-bellied Pipits this year, one on Fair Isle, one Shetland at Rerwick, one on Peninnis, St. Mary's, Scilly and this bird on Bryher....Both ends of the country scores two apiece .

I think it's about time you took a break - in Dorset. We have your accommodation booked!
