I've seen pine warblers before......not very often, but this one seemed new to me. It seemed smaller and the circles around the eyes seemed more pronounced.

Help me out here, experts!!!;)

Thanks,

Julie

How about a Prairie Warbler

Well, it didn't have the black on it like the Prairie Warbler. Are the yellow-throated vireos smaller than the pine warblers? I had one banging on my front door kick plate a couple years ago and I'm almost sure it was larger than this one.

Yellow-throated Vireos are white on the belly and undertail coverts.
Vireos in general don't have any streaks anyplace in any plumage.

This bird has some streaks on the flanks, and yellow on the belly, so consistent with Dendroica warblers.

I would expect vireos also to be stockier build, but some warblers are that way, including Pine. But Prairie Warblers are smaller and slighter than Pine, and have streaks running down the sides.

Thanks for the info! Sorry it took awhile to get back to this thread. I have only seen this bird that one day. Are the Prairie Warblers a bird I would see here in southern Ohio?

Hi Julie,

I agree with Prairie Warbler. Prairie Warbler is a breeding bird in Ohio, but most sightings reported to eBird are in southwestern and south-central Ohio, and there are not that many reports, so they do not appear to be especially common. See the map here (you may have to click on the "map" tab): http://ebird.org/ebird/GuideMe?sour...continue.x=58&continue.y=13&continue=Continue

Best,
Jim
