Pew pew pew call? Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA
Hello, beginner birder here looking for some assistance :~)
I keep hearing a bird call outside my apartment window that I am unable to identify. The sound is "pew pew pew", high pitched and repeated frequently. I saw it once, but it was only for a few seconds before it flew away (and backlit through blinds, besides!) so I don't have a good description, but I know that it is a passerine bird similar in shape and size to an Acadian Flycatcher. However, I don't think it is an Acadian Flycatcher because the voice is different and I am not located near any forest, though there is a small undeveloped area of overgrown trees across the road from my building. We're in a semi-urban area and I've heard him in the morning and early afternoon. He doesn't seem to be phased by the warm weather we've been having recently (80-100 degrees F, if that's helpful). I will endeavor to get a recording the next time I hear him, but in the meantime, any thoughts as to what this bird could be?
Thanks in advance for any help you're able to offer!
