Peanut Grinder? (1 Viewer)

I have been grinding peanuts to around 1/8 inch (MUCH more or less).

Trouble is, our grinder is junk. I grind several pounds per week, and that's a major project with our cheap grinder. I'm on the second grinder in a month.

Anybody know where to get a substantial peanut chopper, that won't disintegrate or make so much peanut dust?

I've never heard of grinding peanuts! Why do you do it?

British birds can cope with chipping away on the nuts without mecanical help.

Well I do it so I can mix the peanuts with molten beef dripping to make fat balls/squares/cylinders/stuffed in holes in logs.

I use an old food processor.

....agreed with John P
I'm no Emeril, but a food processor should give you all the control you seek and do it in a couple of seconds.

Dont give birds whole peanuts though especially during the breeding period, the chicks of birds can choke on them(so says the rspb), paricularly tits or chickadees in America.

I use an old fashion meat mincing machine, the type that clamps on to the kitchen worktop. Exellent for making a good crumble which is acceptable to a far bigger range of birds than when fed whole.

what kind of grinder are you using ? there are some clamp-on hand grinders on ebay.I was thinking of getting one myself cos at £2.99 a bag of peanut nibbles it's getting expensive at the rate they are consuming them. It's better for the birds for the breeding season.

I bought a clamp-on grinder from a car boot sale last year. Cost me £2 I recall. There are usually plenty to find at the bigger car boot sales. I haven't used it for peanuts though (bought it for grinding fishing bait). I would think it would make mincemeat (pun intended) of peanuts. Perhaps even too fine.

You have to play around with the cutters to get the best crumble. I found reversing the front cutter worked best, also the rate you feed it in is important.
