I was unfamiliar with the work of Mr. Garrido until I heard of his passing. He was quite an accomplished naturalist from Cuba in addition to being a professional athlete.

I did not get to meet him, but did bird with several people (including scientists) who knew him well, and he was definitely a powerhouse of influence in Cuba and the Caribbean. A real loss...
