I've been looking for a mid-size binocular that might suit my quality/cost requirements for a "to-go" size as an alternative to my non-WP porros that can be taken on holiday (and might be bumped around in the bottom of my ruck-sack, lost etc..). Whilst chasing a few particular models of new (or current models) 7x and 8x binoculars, I accidentally came across a used Imagic 8x32 for sale.
(I say "accidentally", but this was one of those banner adverts that populate our screens, that are now much more targeted on us, based on what we've looked at in the recent past......very sneaky....This binocular just popped up in a banner advert)
I am happy to consider older, quality optics as an alternative to new budget bins and went to check them out. This is the model current from 2003 to 2007, so these could be up to 10yrs old. They looked OK, if a little dirty, so I risked them.
They cleaned up very well. Being heavier than many of this size give them a feeling of some heft, the armouring looks well up to the job. The focussing has a feel of a direct, slop free, precision movement, perfection.
The view is very good indeed, in terms of sharpness, size of sweet-spot, distortion and CA control, better than any of my recent purchases in roofs (more to the budget end of the market).
I have a 8x36 and 7x36 coming my way soon. They will have to be outstanding to better these....
For those on a tight budget, don't overlook older, quality bins, they can still deliver a creditable performance.
