Ocenaudio only plays back in headphone hands-free AG mode ? (1 Viewer)

I am puzzling as to why if I set the sound settings to use headphone stereo mode, I am getting nothing in playback. I can only get sound if playing back in hands-free AG mode. Maybe being thick here but this seems to work in stereo mode for other applications (youtube etc.), just not in Ocenaudio when loading a WAV file. I can play the same file back with sound using something like vlc player, even when I manually set the audio device to the stereo mode.
The hands-free mode does not seem to give the same level of quality.
