Not made in China (1 Viewer)

In the Opticron range, the ES 80, ES 100, HR 66, HR 80, GS 52 and GS 665 are all made in Japan.

Really? Thanks Pete, I will look at. I see the ES80 and the HR 66 is located in an audubon dealer just down the road from me so will have to visit. Other than the obvious 66/80...what is the difference between a ES and a HR? I looked on Opticron USA site and couldn't figure that one out either. Sorry about the basic question...

Much appreciated! jim

This is a shortened version of the PM I sent Jim - sorry for the delay. in replying!

The HR has a slightly longer focal so with the recommended SDL zoom eyepiece will go to 72x magnification compared to 60x on the ES.

Otherwise, it has much better resolution and contrast so is better in low light or for viewing across water for example.

To try to ensure good outbound quality, we still do 100% inbound QC on all the scopes we sell, regardless of where they are made.

Cheers, Pete

Hello Imans,

Maybe Meopta. Their binoculars are made in the Czech Republic or assembled in the USA but I do not know about their 'scopes.

Happy bird watching,
Arthur Pinewood :hi:

The IS range is made in Taiwan and the current iterations of the MM3 range are made in China.

We still maintain a 100% inbound QC in the UK for all scope bodies with the exception of the entry-level Adventurer models (those are also made in China).

meopta s2 hd is made in czech republic,
but I consider it as an alpha-scope…
(considering the tests results I have seen)

The latest scope from Meopta MeoPro 20-60x80 HD is made/assembled in the US, same price range as the Vortex.

It seems that Kamakura is the source/prefab of a lot of optics
that are made in Japan. But they might have production in China as well.

seems to be an kamakura optical in china:

found this on another forum:

"Kamakura Koki Ltd. has factories in China, Malasia and Korea. It has a research and development lab in Japan and makes optic for the following manufacturers under licence.

Alpen
Brunton
Bushnell
Burris
Celestron
Kahles
Leupold
Minolta
Minox
Nikon
Pentax
Steiner
Swift

I guess you can add Zeiss to the list?
