Nikon coolpix S4 (1 Viewer)

Thanks Yossi

I think that just about tells us all we need to know about the S4's ability to digiscope.

Thanks

Mark

Yossi,
Thank you for the S4 demo shots. Hopefully the Canon A620 fairs better for the task of digiscoping. I sure wished I had something today for some American Coots I saw.

Nikon S4

According to SW optics @ www.swoptics.co.uk you can use the Nikon FSB-1a digiscoping adaptor with this model. Ithink I might give it a go. It looks like you could use any mount with the right thread which the guy at wilkinsons says is a standard Nikon.

Hi ,
I just lost my Canon A95 on a kayaking trip on Lake Superior [ it drowned ] and was planning to replace it this week when I saw a review of a new Nikon in the coolpix range, the S4. It had a similar swivel design to the Nikons that were so effective for digiscoping, and also featured a 10 times optical zoom and 6 megapixel rating.
The review I read didn't mention anything about accessories that would permit attachment to a scope. Has anyone at bird forum seen anything on those lines with respect to this camera?

What should I do?

On a related issue, my Coolpix 4500 has given up the ghost. Do I:

1. Get another 4500- I have many extras for it (x3 telefoto, wide-angle lens, various digiscoping adapters, remote control)?

2. Get a different camera? If so, which? (I like the 4500's tilting body for digiscoping.)

Help, please!

I'd recommend trying to find the CP8400. With the UR-E15 adapter you can obtain the familiar 28mm thread. The image quality is better, it has 8 MP (vs. 4 MP) and has a great EVF. The drawbacks - zoom range gets to only to 85mm (equiv. in 35mm format) and you can work only in the 70-85mm range. This is not practically limiting, as you can zoom with scope's EP.
The camera has a wireless remote control, very convenient.
