New to Forum. Need advice on bird seed during snow storm (1 Viewer)

Hello - we are in Kentucky and presently have a snow storm. Birds are flying around looking for food. I don't have any birdseed to put out but would like to make something they can eat. I can't get out and only have what is in my cabinets. I see recipes using lard. I don't have any. Best I can do is fry some hamburger and get fat drippings from that. Will that work? Any other items I should add? Oatmeal? Peanut butter?

Hi Denny and a warm welcome from me too.

I think you just need to be careful that there's no (or not too much) salt in the burger fat. Land birds can't process it like sea birds can.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

Do you have any dried fruit such as raisins or sultanas? If so, you could soak them in water for a couple of hours and put them out. Or fresh chopped apples or grapes.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.
