Hello, my name is Peter and I live in the Netherlands. New to this forum. I just discovered this forum in my search for information on the Alpen Teton 10x42.

The BBR website is recommending these bins as best under $ 600,-, but the review made by birdforum member jackjack shows that it has its flaws.

Anyhow, I am searching for a decent pair of binoculars and try to gather information as much as possible. I will be using it for birding, but also take it with me on hikes during my travels in Europe and south-east Asia.

Hi Peter and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. The guys in the Binocular forums will be of great help to you in choosing your binoculars. If you need any help in finding your way around our site, please don't be afraid of asking for help.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Thanks. Perhaps I will make use of the experience and knowledge over here by asking questions, but I guess a pair of binoculars are for a part also depending on the person.
I used to have a pair of Olympus Magellan 8x42 EXWP I, but had to give them away because they were black, and my wife had a big mental problem. She could not stand black anymore. Those times are luckily gone and now I am trying to find a new pair, but not in black anymore ;). That limits my search, but I will find a good pair.

Hello Peter,

Welcome to the forum! I would suggest that you decide on some parameters for a new binocular: price, waterproof or not, objective size, magnification, field of view, and eye relief, especially if you wear eyeglasses. Then post in the binocular section for advice. I would think that a binocular with a 42mm of objective would be too large for hiking and excursions, although a 42mm objective makes sense for twilight in northern Europe.

Happy bird watching,
Arthur
