I originally started building this nest box for crested pigeons. But on inquiry about entrance size, I was told that crested pigeons don't use nestboxes.

Instead of abandoning my build project I decided to carry on and see what bird will use it. If it gets used, the project would not have been in vain.

I will just add more info and photos as I go along. Most photos ought to be self explanatory.

A few weeks ago I weeded out my balcony potted herbs and placed the weeds in a bucket at the time. Instead of throwing them away I decided to keep the bucket in the sun for a few days to dry the weeds. I figured that it would make good nesting material.

I read that it is not a good idea to make the nest for the birds. Just leave a few bits in the nesting place to suggest that the nest is not occupied, and it is an ideal nesting place. I will, at the time, leave the rest of the material scattered about for the birds to sample and pick what they may want. I hope this idea will work, but first I still need to make the nest box.

Just gathering my doodles and calculations to draw up some sort of plan for me to follow.

There is no roof overhang as such, because this will be mounted high up on my balcony wall, which has a large roof overhang.
