Neat Image Software (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys, I have just been given some Info with regards to this software called NEAT IMAGE which removes digital noise caused by using high ISO. I have only managed to find the demo version, Does anyone know where I can find the full free version of NEAT IMAGE...

Thanks.
Sean..

If you want the full version you'd need to pay for it... why not use the demo for a while and see if you think it's worth it. I used to use NI a fair bit but since changing to the 40D if haven't bothered, even ISO800 shots don't need any NR on them. I was talking about this just yesterday and I realised that I havent even opened NI so far this year!

Hi Sean,
As far as I know the demo version is the free version. It does pretty much the same job as the full, paid for, version except that it strips out the exif data which is not saved with the filtered image. Obviously the data is retained with your original image and providing you "save as" rather than "save" the filtered image it is not really a problem and the original remains untouched. I use Neat Image from time to time and find it useful. From experience I find that by reducing all the settings to around 50% it gives me an acceptable image with minimal loss in feather detail, etc.

Good luck!

Mike

thanks guys, the demo is ok, but I t wont work on images higher than 1024x1024, I was wondering if the full version would work with images higher than 1024x1024, but saying that if i save the images to web from photoshop, i can then use the noise software from there it just means having to save the image again. If I could ask you postcardcv, i use a 40D & when its cloudy or dull my camera uses ISO 800 when I have It on auto, do you use auto ISO or do you alter It yourself...

Thanks for your Input guys.
Sean.

The full version works with all file sizes and this really is the way you want to go. Using neat image on a full size file gives a far better result and more control over what it does. Its also far easier to work on a full size image if you use neat image with a mask in PS for selecting areas of an image that don't need 'neat imaging.'

I agree with postcardcv about hardly ever using noise reduction software since I got rid of my 20d. Files from 40d, 1d mkIII etc shouldn't need much, if any NR

I set the ISO myself, I know that the 40D has an auto ISO setting but I've never used it. If you have a look in my gallery you'll see that most of my recent stuff has been ISO400 with some stuff up at ISO800, there's been no noise reduction in any of these shots. They print up nicely too, ISO800 shots with no NR still look great as A3 prints. http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/3294

Second noiseware community edition here - for a free program, there's no restriction on image size, or sticking a dirty great corporate logo in the middle of your shot either!

I've been using the full Neat Image version recently. I have a 400D which is pretty noisy at ISO 800 and the software works very well on full sized images.

Can't comment on Noise Ninja but I've heard good things.

I don't rate Canon's DPP and Photoshop's built in noise reduction.

I'll buy a 50D later this year, hopefully the ISO performance at 800 will be much better than my 400D and perhaps I'll only use the Neat Image for ISO 1600 or above................
