Hi all
The last few nights me and a friend have been out listening for calling long eared owl chicks in our hometown (Cobh, CO. Cork). So far we have confirmed 4, possibly five breeding pairs. The call of the chicks is very clear. So far we've had good views of hunting adults close chick(including one fighting with a rabbit), adults feeding young. BUT, Lastnight we found a new site. Just before we were leaving i was messing wiht my camera and was listening to a recording of the young i took at another site. Then an adult swooped out from the trees only feet over our head, then laned near us and gave a strange call. Below is a link wiht both the call of the young and that distinctive call the adult gave.
Does anyone know purpose this call serves, as it is quite unlike the territorial call. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0KeG6r5GoY
Thanks in advance
Seán.
