Leica 8x50 Ultravid HD Plus (1 Viewer)

Glad my post was helpful Quincy88. I'm still a huge fan of the 50s although having used them more , the real benefit is in their intended purpose ie twilight. Somebody commented about having the older Trinovid model (which I used to own a few years back) and it's reason to be was 'use on a winters afternoon with overcast skies..' I'd agree with that but they're still more than good enough for everyday use.

And yes Tom, I'm still using my 8x50s thanks. Wonderful glass and love them.

Hi,

May i ask if there is a big difference in optical quality between the older UV 8x50HD and the current UV8x50 HD+ ?
Would appreciate inputs from experienced users here. Thanks in advance.

I have both and find the difference almost imperceptible. I know that with different glass and better coatings, resulting in slightly higher transmission, the HD+ is better equipped and theoretically ought to perform a bit better, but even using them side-by-side, I have a hard time seeing the difference. Both are fabulous binos.

I never looked through the Ultravid 8x50 HD but have an approximate idea having owned 8x42 upgraded to HD. My opinion is that yes there is a difference but that difference is an evolutionary one and not a revolutionary one. There's improvements in the light transmission and in the control of chromatic abberation. If I had both in front of me to buy then I'd buy the HD+. If I already owned the HD, I wouldn't upgrade to tbe HD+. The main reason is that the outstanding colour reproduction is essentially unchanged, at least in my estimation
