Latest IOC Diary Updates (28 Viewers)

Shouldn't grumble at losing one I suppose, considering that they were both still Great Tit when I first saw Cinereous.

I do think we should start a petition though, to put a stop to the splitting of things on islands that no-one's heard of, and a stop to lumping globally widespread easy to see things 🥴😆

I am hoping folks come up with a new name for the combination of Cinereous + Japanese. It's always confusing when you get a relump of two wide-ranging species and one of lumped species common name gets used for both. Oriental Tit?

I only have "Japanese" Tit, but the former Cinereous would have been a probable lifer on my big birding trip next year, so it does deny me a near future tick.
Indo-Pacific?

Jul 10 Accept lump of Barlow's Lark with Dune Lark.

Jul 10 Accept lump Foxy Lark with Fawn-colored Lark.

Luckily, evaded this one too having only seen Barlow's and Fawn-coloured.

In China they were recently lumped and the common name is now essentially Great Tit (with Parus major being Eurasian Great Tit).

China is a part of Eurasia, so, Eurasian Great Tit is a lil' bit confusing.

Or : Eurasian Great Tit for major and South-asian Great Tit for cinereus ? (Yeah but a trinomial name gives the impression that both are subspecies)

nigrescens : A. noirâtre / Blackish Lark

Wonderful! Some thoughts on the English names though of Red-winged and Rufous-naped Larks s.s. To avoid confusion, it would be preferable that they were given new names, especially since the red wings and rufous napes surely aren't unique characters, especially now. Any suggestions?

We are planning to rename Corypha africana "Red-naped" Lark. The Updates haven't caught up to that yet.

Not so for Red-winged Lark, but will ponder.

Thanks
