just got one of these second hand, with 60x eyepiece...what other eyepiece's
will fit this ,thinking of a 25x or 30x wide or there abouts...do i need to stick with kowa? or will other eyepieces fit? opticron ? or other....thanks mark.

Hi Mark,

As I recall, eyepieces for Kowa TSN models were bayonet fit and weren't compatible with other makes. Looks like you may be stuffed, unless you can find anything on the secondhand market. I know that a full range of magnifications were available, inc a zoom and a 30xW, so you may be lucky.

All of the eyepieces for the current TSN 600 and 660 range will fit the older TSN 1,2,3,4 scopes. So basically, the first set in this link.

You won't be able to use the ones for the TSN 770, 880 or 820 scopes as they are a different fitting. A cheaper option might be to put a request in the classified section for one of the original TSN eyepieces. The newer ones with the twist-up eye cups are reputed to be better though, so might be worth the investment.

The opticron HDF 20-60 will fit, and is alot better than the kowa 20-60.

I use a Kowa TSN4 (mechanically the same) and I use an Opticron SDL V2 eyepiece on it. It does not fit the Kowa's bayonet fitting but does fit the outside thread for adapters etc. To fit the Opticron you need a 3mm spacing washer to stop the eyepiece rotating - a 2p neoprene O ring works just fine. Whilst not the best eyepiece in the world it is far from shabby and far better than the Kowa original. I have compared my TSN4 + SDL V2 setup to the best available and though not as good is not far behind.
The SDL V1 and a number of other Opticron eyepieces will also fit and perform well.

I've got the TSN 20XWA, 30XWA and 20-40 zoom . In my opinion the 30XWA is the best allround lense .
Secondhand on ebay you're looking at £80-110 for a 30XWA as they're still very much in demand.
