Kingfishers from Kenya (1 Viewer)

Hi all!

Here is two kingfishers from Kenya. Big one I photo in May, small - in December. Both of them are Grey-headed?

I would say the first is a Striped Kingfisher, the second is Grey-headed.

yes, Striped has dark brown mottled coverts and dark brown back, stripes below and very long eye mask with striped crown

So you think that it is juvenile Grey-headed? But on all photos of Grey-headed I found they have red bill, not black...

Grey-headed juvenile indeed. Look at buff-rufous belly : this exclude Striped (very different) and Brown-hooded (more similar).

Bill starts by being black (but not totally) and gradually becomes red.
