Photographed in Tsavo East.

Any clues to species would be gratefully received. The closest image I could find was Wahlberg's Eagle; but there is no yellow on the beak. However, it was photographed at sunset so it could be showing as darker / redder than usual.

I believe it is a Wahlberg's Eagle. There is yellow on the beak. See below:

And a close look at the beak of your bird shows yellow around the nostrils.


In THE EAGLE WATCHERS at page 135 (Chapter 15) it says it is "probably Africa's most common eagle."

Bateleur was my immediate thought as well, though someone with East African experience may be able to eliminate tail-less individuals of other species?

It's an imm Bateleur - no tail, long wings and 'big' head. Nothing else that looks like it

Fascinating read about the Bataleur in THE EAGLE WATCHERS!

It's a great book and is as close to I'm ever going to get to actually "seeing" most of these birds!
