Kentucky Woodpecker ID (1 Viewer)

Back again with another ID help request. No picture unfortunately.
I have a family of Hairy woodpeckers visiting the suet cake this winter
along with the Rosebelly, Downey and Flickers.
I looked the Hairy Woodpecker up in a field guide and feel pretty sure on the ID.
My questions.
How does one differentiate between a juvenile Hairy Woodpecker
and a mature Downey woodpecker?
Is their some criteria other than size?
The info may be in a field guide but not in the one I have.
I have noticed aggressive behavior between what look like Downey woodpeckers and this leads me to suspect one or more of them may be a juvenile Hairy woodpecker.
One final request. Has anyone been successful in attracting the Pileated woodpecker to their suet cakes ? I have a big male lurking in the hillside forest behind my home. He is very difficult to approach but I have seen him
after he revealed his position with his loud and raucous calls.
Thanks again for your help.

The length of the bill is a good mark of a hairy. The downy's bill is short stubbier, the hairy's is longer. The imm. hairy should still be larger the an adult downy. As for the pileated double sized suet cage set back into the wooded area up high close to it's favorite tree might work.

The white feathers on the underside of the tail usually have some black bars on the Downy Woodpecker. While these white feathers usually do not have the black bars on a Hairy Woodpecker. This characteristic could be another clue to which woodpecker you are looking at.
