juvenile thrush or blackbird. ( Fife.) (1 Viewer)

hello,
juvenile birds are not in my guide, and this is a frequent visitor too my garden ,

but is it a young thrush or blackbird ?
i cant decide if its colours are getting darker or lighter... so im stumped.

thanx in advance.

I think it's 1cy (juv) Black bird, probably male bird, because it has much black colour. Juveniles have e.g. pale markings (shaft stripes) in the mantle and scapulars and also darker bill refers to juvenile.

Nope, it's a juvenile male blackie. Note the dark retrices and the narrow spots on the upperparts - juv females have browner wings and broader spots. Adult females have no spots at all on the upperparts.
 
Does look like a male due to blackish tail feathers. centre of upper throat on males are apparently always blackish, mottled light in females, but some are similar to females, like underparts and lower throat on this one. Difficult to see middle of throat here though.

OK, now I,m confused whether its m/f..But heres a Juv Song Thrush ,don,t know sex though.

Well, we could, but it is clearly a male so why not say so? Nobody has suggested it a juvenile female, only Henry B suggested it was a female at all - everyone seems happy it's a male!
