Is there an online bird identifier for desktop/laptop - not phone ? (2 Viewers)

I had the same question as the OP. I use a Mac laptop, so the solution I found was to download the Merlin Bird ID app from the Apple store, and it works on the mac, apparently emulating an iPhone (small window, shaped like a phone). But it works fine. I have to first open the Photos app (on the laptop), and import the photo there. Then I open the Merlin Bird ID app on the laptop, the photo appears there, and I am able to choose it. Location is given as "unknown", and it allows me to specify it using a map.

I've tried it twice and it worked well. It ID'd a mistletoe tyrannulet from Turrialba, Costa Rica using a photo I took there. It also ID'd a long-tailed broadbill based on a photo I found at TripAdvisor that someone had taken at Namdapha NP, India.

It's too bad, and really surprising, that there doesn't seem to be a web-based version of the Merlin Bird ID app.

Yes! That is what I do, several times a day. It works wonderfully with no hiccups or glitches, and yields a positive ID every single time.
