Is the Swarovski Warranty Transferable? (1 Viewer)

This may have been talked about Ad Nausem, but I'm in the market for a pair of Swarovski Bino's and wonder if the warranty is transferable? Say I buy them here, or from eBay or Amazon or some "on-line" 2nd hand seller, will Swarovski still handle any warranty issues or might I be stuck if a problem occurs after I buy them? A warranty is a very important issue to me.

Thanks everyone!!

Surprised nobody answered this... From what I heard several times, it's not. Just like Leica's warranty.

There is more than one question to answer. First off is whether there is a warranty. Some grey market goods do not have a warranty. Second question is who is the warranty from. If it is a good intended for sale in some other country you may have to deal with that importer for warranty work. Third, whether the warranty is transferrable is going to depend on how the warranty is written and the policy of the importer for your binoculars. You should contact the importer.

My understanding is that within the US and Canada, all Swaros distributed through SONA (Swarovski Optik North America) are covered by their warranty. All the rest are gray market. SONA probably has serial number records to determine which is which.

I've used SONA several times for SLC repairs (I own four), and was never asked about whether or not I was the original purchaser. In three cases I couldn't prove it anyway, since the receipts are long lost. One was bought used, but they repaired it without incident. Another was bought new at a gun show, but with no paperwork.

So although the warranty provisions would certainly allow SONA to deny warranty services in some cases, they seem to go out of their way to support the current owner of the binoculars. Case in point: I sold my friend my original 8x30 SLC, Mk II, which he then left in the rain for three days (by accident). He sent it to SONA since it leaked, and they promptly sent him a newer Mk III with no questions asked.

I would still suggest avoiding gray market products, partly to be ethical, but also to be safe.

Swarovski warranty the best, even bought on the bay

I recently sent a pair of Swarovski 8x20 compacts to SONA after a call to customer service. One of the hinges was loose. About two weeks later I got back what looks like a new binocular, clean and beautiful -- with the hinges exactly as they should be. There was a packing slip with 8 or nine items that were treated and adjusted, and a stamp on the packing slip which says "No Charge."

Given I bought them on the bay and said so to the customer service person, this is definitely a generous warranty service, above and beyond. The reputation Swarovski has for top of the line customer care in addition to the best of the best binoculars is clearly earned and well deserved.

This is the main reason I've changed from Leica, peace of mind and quality back-up.

I have found Swarovski to be a perfect example of a company that illustrates the point that for most people, what you do is more important than what you say. If you read a North American warranty card, they have a pretty typical "Lifetime Limited Warranty". In practice, they have consistently gone above and beyond warranty obligations and thus regularly exceed customer's expectations. If you ask me, they way they treat their customers is more important than words on a warranty card. In the case of Swarovski, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a used model with the assumption it was originally purchased from an authorized North American dealer. If issues arise, I would feel 100% confident that they will take care of your purchase.

We own two pair of Swaro ELs. One pair was purchased used.

A couple years after the used purchase, I called SONA customer service to ask about some service work.

I told the gentleman that I was not the original purchaser, and I did not have a bill of sale from an authorized dealer. I did have the original blank warranty card.

He asked me one question, "are you the owner of them now?"

I said yes and he said, "send them in, we'll take care of them. "

These examples, and countless others around the 'net only reiterate the point that Leica can't even be mentioned in the same sentence with Swarovski. It's pretty pathetic when a Chinese glass (Zen Ray) has a better warranty than a $2k+ Leica.

Indeed! Leica certainly can't be mentioned in the same sentence with Swarovski!

Why there are 3 mentions of that evil name in this thread alone in the 10 comments made in it over a 5 year period! And the thread is about Swarovski's warranty!:-O
