Stuck a few cheap feeders(nut bags) up the other day in Westoe cem. to test the water so to speak,checked them today and guess what... gone!
I thought at first the local youth have been up to their tricks again..but no footprints in the snow around the areas i placed them, only broken branches.
Came home and told Jan about them being missing..she told me when she walked Max there yesterday that 3 Maggies were having a right go at one of the nutbags!(wish she had told me at the time!) clever birds i know as they were hanging.

Re-think needed, involving Electrians tie wraps, thicker branches and a few other methods of feeding birds on the cheap for now untill its established and left alone.

2 Fieldfare over and 2 Redwing feeding here on this visit.

Quick stop off at Saxon way area of Jarra this morning on the santa run, good numbers of thrush,s again here slightly down in number to the last visit but the berries are running out fast.

Then a hour or so along Whitburn beach this pm. produced the usual waders plus 4 Barwits, 1 Grey plover and Golden plovers feeding along cliff tops and on the beach.
1 Female Kestrel made a pass thro- trying for Pipits (still large numbers here) but a female Spuggyhawk showed her how its done!
11 Snow bunting remain here also.

Right off for a few B B B now.

Hi Steve seen a female Sparrowhawk at Whitburn twice during the week and both times it caught a pipit.Saw a female Merlin chasing pipits yesterday.The pipits are certainly attracting a few raptors.

Hi you have go south through Whitburn village to get to Whitburn Steel there is a car park next to Latimers Fishmongers which is opposite Cornthwaite Park.From the car park you can walk along the cliff top over looking the steel or you can walk down to the beach the Snow Buntings can be anywhere along the beach they can be very flightly if there are people walking about.

The Snow buntings seem to be hanging around south of the car park,They were almost as far south as Morrisons when i first saw them on Wednesday.

Hiya Davy - have sent you an email with a satellite map of the location you need to watch to see the birds. You need to be aware that the Sunderland Boxing Day Dip will happen on Saturday - this is right outside the seaburn centre just a few yards south of Morrisons. With all of the people involved i'd guess the birds will probably not venture too close to that area.

Whitburn this morning adult Med Gull and the usual waders did'nt have a look for the Snow Buntings lots of people walking about on the beach hopefully they are still around.On the Leas adult Med Gull,3 Redwings,Fieldfare also 3 Snow Buntings flew south.Still a big number of Wood Pigeons in the Boldon area adult female Peregrine flew over Boldon Flats.

A busy day today with lots of photo's so i'll do it in two parts.Went along to Shields this morning at least 12 Pochard on the pond,no birds out of the ordinary on the beach but did find this fish and another two of them a whitburn later can anyone ID it? called into boldon flats on the way back not much except a few Fieldfare and a covey of partridges.

A bit late i know but i dont get on much. The fish is a Bream of some kind i would say a Rays Bream

Had a couple of hours at Clara Vale & Lamesley today, really enjoyed myself with a good variety of species seen;

Sparrowhawk, Lapwing, Common Snipe, BH Gulls, Common Gull, Goldfinch, Redwing, Mistle Thrush, Blackbird, Red Legged Partridge, Heron, Teal, Moorhen, House Sparrow, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Curlew & Woodpigeon

Dog walk this morning- 15 Skylarks over the dunes south, 8 Purple sands on the pier rocks and 40+ Dunlin resting up here.
Bh gull in Marine park with strange type ring....will send the details off.
Adult Med. gull in the usual car park at Marsden, while since ive seen it here.

Marine Park

Managed to get an hour out in the Marine Park this afternoon to try out my Canon 7D with a 70-200mm lens. Due to the poor light all shot at ISO 800

Although the results are not perfect, flight shots are remarkably easier than with my 40D
