How's Your 2025 List Going? (2 Viewers)

I only had a week, so I did southwestern Uganda, including Mabamba Swamp, Lake Mburo, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and Queen Elizabeth NP.

My first time in East Africa, so it was a wonderful experience.

Dave

I bet. We didn’t get to queen Elizabeth because of travel restrictions or bwindi but loved mburo and mabamba. So many brilliant birds

Went to The Huntington Botanical Gardens again today. I walked around for three hours and a total of 5.2 miles (8.4 kilometers). I saw 20 species and took photos of all of them. I got 6 (edit: 5) lifers! This is the link to my Ebird checklist with all the photos for every species I saw https://ebird.org/checklist/S221962058

45. Band-tailed Pigeon
46. Oak Titmouse (Edit: Disregard wrong id)
47. Northern House Wren
48. American Robin
49. Cedar Waxwing (Dream Lifer! I saw a big flock of 22 of them fly around.)
50. Scaly-breasted Munia

A nice mix of spring and local interest in the last two days in the Alentejo of Portugal:

133. European Red-rumped Swallow
134. Western House Martin
135. Pallid Swift
136. Corn Bunting
137. Eurasian Scops Owl
138. Woodchat Shrike
139. Crested Lark
140. Rock Sparrow
141. European Bee-eater
142. Sand Martin
143. Crested Tit
144. Common Waxbill
145. Short-toed Snake Eagle
146. Common Cuckoo
147. Iberian Magpie
148. Black-winged Kite

Plus a few extras that I heard but didn't see, that I hope to get over the next week or so.

I added #136 Broad-winged hawk today, however I failed to connect with what I believe is the first documented short-tailed hawk nesting pair ever reported in Texas. Their nest is in a restricted area, so the stakeout is probably 1-1.5 km from their approximate nesting site and you just have to hope you catch one of them soaring over the ridgeline. Reported half an hour after my 2 hour effort.

I made three attempts at finding Grasshopper Warbler in the last week, a long overdue lifer. Failed every time! The struggle continues. However, the year list continues to grow.

203. Great Bustard
204. Lesser Kestrel
205. Iberian Chiffchaff
206. Greater Short-toed Lark
