Hello everyone. All my life I have never seen an owl in the wild and its somewhat a dream of mine. How can I increase my chances of this happening? I live in Fishkill, Ny

Unless you are talking about diurnal (Owls that hunt in the day) Owls you'll need a great amount of luck simply to chance on one.

Most people will have recording equipment and go out at night playing the recording. When a reply is heard, they'll have a powerfull torch with which to look for the bird.

There are othere areas where a nest may be known or where a bird regularly roosts in the day. Depending where you are, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a Barn Owl, find your local bird club and go out with them.

Nnoo, you can perfectly well see various owls without recording. The only problem is that birders are lazy and never go at night.

Now comes the season when young of various owls will be out of nest, and call endlessly dusk to dawn for food. Walking or biking in the forest or farmland on the evening, you have great chance to hear and then see such a family. Powerful torch, naturally, helps. Only remember that nestlings are pretty foolish, but their parents are wary and will not feed them in human presence, so don't stay long. Also, some adult owls attack humans near nestlings, but this is mostly few boreal species.
