Attached are some pictures of plants taken at Hodbarrow RSPB in Cumbria, UK. The first two are Northern Marsh Orchids (i think), and the second two are Bee Orchids (i think), with wasp heads, and the last two are Scarlet pimpernels.

Nick.

Hi Nick,

You are correct on all three species identifications. The Bee orchids are not trollii though (Wasp); the lip shape is not correct for that variety. They (especially the first one),look closer to the var. belgarum which has the yellow horizontal bar on the lip and no speculum. However, this var also lacks side protrusions, so your plants can't be that var. I would suggest they are simply aberrantly sized and patterned apifera.

Regards

Sean
