Hi all, issue with zeiss victory sf 10x42 (1 Viewer)

Hi, i have recently purchased a ne zeiss victory sf 10x42. having tried NL Pure 10x42 and 12x42 decided to get victory sf because of glare and vailing problems with nl pure.
But, it looks like I am not getting one single image with the two barrels at the position that my pupils match with the pupils of the bino at about 65mm width. the two circles that form the objectives do not fully overlap each other to form one single picture, despite the distance I am observing the objects at.

Can someone tell me what is potentially wrong? is here anyone that has such experience?
Thank you for reaction in advance.

On behalf of all staff and moderators, welcome to Birdforum.

This thread was in the 'say hello' area, but your question will get more answers in this subforum about optics, so have moved it here for you 👍

The binocular may be out of collimation, or possibly you need prism correction if you wear glasses.
The binocular may have been dropped.

B.

Yes, zeissit‘s description sounds like it dropped hard. You should give it back to the dealer to get a replacement or send it to Zeiss to get a replacement, alternatively.

The dealer has most likely more of the SF 10x42 in stock, so you would get the replacement immediately. But for the next time, I would suggest to open the box together with the dealer to check the replacement bino if it has the same faults. It could be that during the transport of multiple boxes an incident happened which broke more than one binocular.

Describe a bit more what you're seeing. Does the image overlap, but you just don't get a single circular edge to the view? In that case it could be your eyes having slightly different magnification. If the image also doesn't overlap then it's more likely an instrument problem. For an easier diagnosis, try looking at a bright star at night.

By what other means do you know you have the interpupillary distance correct if the images aren't aligned? And in what direction do they seem misaligned?
