I have a 3-legged Thing Patti tripod with a ball head, recently started using it for video with a bridge camera and did not like the pan and tilt.
So I went quietly crazy looking at numerous budget video heads, during the course of my research I saw a video review of the Manfrotto Beefree 3 Way Live tripod and head.
The review was by a guy who rarely shoots video and would not often use the head’s roll facility TO SHOOT IN PORTRAIT MODE, however, he demonstrated that the extra axis was perfect for levelling the head with great precision when the tripod was on uneven ground, not a point I would have considered, but a very valuable facility and streets ahead of the ball head that came with the tripod.
So, a quick browse showed that the head alone has a rrp of £150, typical discount price £110, and MPB had a mint example for £60 which is now winging its way in this direction.
Will update when tested,

The head arrived, very promptly, very well packaged and in mint, as new condition.
It is very much to my liking, with the 3 way adjustment being perfect for setting up for macro shots and similar, while the fluid damped pan and tilt are streets ahead of the ball mount that came with my 3 Legged Thing Punks Patti.
I am currently awaiting delivery of a monopod that doubles as a trekking pole and will experiment with fitting the 3 LT ball mount on both ends of the monopod, I have an Olympus TG6 and waterproof housing and am planning to use the monopod and TG in local ponds that allow pond dipping, it will soon be time for amphibians to head for breeding ponds, might be interesting?
