I would like to say hello to everyone out there. Hello!
I live in the beautiful county of Cornwall. I have birded here for about ten years. I also travel abroad several times of year mainly birding and holidays. I also enjoy disgiscoping or though I'm not that good at it. My other passion is bats I am licenced by English Nature and I do consultancy work for many different companiesand organisations. Anyway nice to be on board.
Best Wishes
Steve

Hi Steve,

Welcome to Birdforum :t:

We have a growing membership of birders with all levels of experience, but everyone shares the same keen interest in all things birding.
Everyone is friendly ont he site, so feel free to join in the postings to share your thoughts and opinions. The Gallery is being upgraded at the moment, else you could upload your own photos into an album, many members do. Meanwhile if you wish you can post shots in the forum threads.
I hope that you derive as much pleasure from the site as what I have. There is an active digiscoping forum if you have any advice to offer or queries.
See you around.

Hello Steve,

I am a Devonian and go to Cornwall a lot if nothing then for Peter Morris Pasties! I had a great time birding the Newquay area last year taking in Kelsey Head and Trevose Head, Tregunna on the Camel Estuary plus a few other spots.

Glad to have another south wester on board!

Steve: great to have someone else form the West Country. I am writing this in Devon, although I am in London a lot I must admit. We look forward to your postings and your pix. Perhaps we'll have a joint Devon/Cornwall trip some time.

Welcome to the Forum, Steve

I spent a great week in Hayle last September, where I have never seen so many Little Egrets in all my life! Great place, great people and great birds!

Look forward to reading your posts!

Welcome Steve,
Good to get the west country up to strength.
Have you been able to take pictures of your bats? Very difficult I bet.

Welcome Steve,

I know this is a bird forum, but have you seen a Mouse Eared Bat? I beleive the south gets the occasional vagrant from the continent.

Hi and Welcome Steveincornwall. Look forward to hearing all about your interest in bats (oh and birds too). On summer evenings we get bats flying overhead eating all the mosquitoes. It is usually around dusk and so is very hard to see them. They seem to have a six inch wing span. Do you have any idea what kind of bat it would be?

Hello SteveinCornwall... this is from British Columbia Canada... and I do look forward to hearing all about your birds and where you go to watch...Welcome aboard.

Welcome Steve ! Glad you like "bats" cool, I also like them a lot. So I guess we share something in common too. Hope we see you on the board a lot. BBW.

Hello everyone, thanks for such a warm welcome. I will try and reply to all the questions although many are about bats and not birds---is this allowed within the group? Anyway Paula I have some pictures of bats, not very good but my licence only allows me to photograph them as an incidental part of my bat visits. Will post some if the group allows! Steve-nova, I have seen mouse-eared but only in France. The last resident mouse-eared died last year. A juvenile MEared was however found very recently, so the search is definately on for a new colony. Yve.m you are probably seeing pipistrelle bats in your garden feeding on the mozzies, if you see them very soon after dusk then you may have a roost very near by. If you would like more information them please ask.
Sorry if this has bored the other members of the group.
Thanks once again for all your welcomes, look forward to talking birds soon. Steve
