I just joined and my name is Romy. I love taking pics of everything and especially birds! I am posting a few pics I took a couple days ago of an Anna's Hummingbird female in flight by my blooming Jasmine on our gazebo and a baby one. We live on a private island with around 80 others...vacation homes here number around 300. This said, 15 mph speed limit, no groceries and we take the private ferry or boat off to shop. Our modest home is on the top of the island so I have a wide open water view. We see all kinds of birds here as well as whales and sealife. The Audubon society comes out every year for the bird count. We have the highest concentration for our islands size per our state! There are so many beautiful birds but I thought I would post a pic of our fastest birds and tricky to photograph. I will add another couple more for fun to share these cuties. Taken with a Nikon D5300, shutter speed of 4,000, fixed aperture lens F 5.6 200mm to 500mm with ISO of 1,000. Handheld sunny day and made sure a light shade was hitting the gazebo.

Thank you so much! It was my first few days with that used lens I found! Yay! I was so pleased and just getting used to it. I shoot manual and sometimes on priority modes. I found the best results so far using my manual settings with this lens so far. I shot some hummingbirds in similar lighting with aperture priority and the same shutter speed which surprisingly were not very clear. This one below is a cute one of a baby. 449521342_10161371825456480_3171242992067886311_n.jpg

Excellent image of this youngster!

Thank you so much! I took a lot that day and they are the hardest birds to focus on with this huge lens in my very small hands! I was happy with them and next I will go after our resident bald eagles and ravens plus the sea birds.

Thank you! Its a cool site I am enjoying. Found that section and it was easy and straightforward to post on.

Hi Romys and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing about the birds you see when out and about.

Thank you Delia! Oh my do I see the birds out here. Private island with only 80 folks full time, 15 mph for cars and no power lines. We have the highest concentration of birds in our state for the size island we live on. This is a fraction of what I see here. I will add to the gallery when the first 24 hours are up.
