The book is due for publication on 13/14 December. I posted a pre-publication review on my blog. £30 or less from other than Princeton. if you want to pay for 'space' trips.

Hello philip1947,
The German edition (by HAUPT, Switzerland) is already out since a few weeks. When comparing the sample pages in your referenced review with those in the German edition I recognise several differences in the layout. Whereas the pictures are obviously the same, they are differently arranged. In the HAUPT edition all birds are arranged with the "heads left" (or flying right to left). (Note: This format - heads left - has been consequently choosen in the two volume Shirihai/Svensson "Handbook of western paleartic birds (Passerines)" as well.) The distribution maps are also not the same (at least those shown in the sample pages). I really wonder why these differences exist. I would have expected only the translation as the subject of change.
Regards,
Werner

If only life was so simple. Text in English runs out substantially shorter than the same text translated into most other major languages (except Chinese). Consequently, in a page-layout of a translated document that relies heavily on the precise arrangement of text and graphics, it can often be necessary to revise the layout in order to fit all the text in while not reducing the size of the graphics too much.

These Princeton sample pages are incorrect.
I guess they wanted to promote the book as soon as possible and did not wait for the reviewed, final product...
The Haupt sample pages are the real ones and show the correct layout of the photos, maps etc:
The English version has the exact same layout.

I pre-ordered the English copy 👍……any chance a pdf or failing that a Kindle version might be released please?

That explains it. Thank you for clarification.
