In Korea, I think that now Great Egret is almost Egretta alba alba... or Ardea alba alba.

Ardea modesta disappear at November.
And I don't know they changing type. leg color is ???

Nice pictures.

I would guess that you have two different species. I am only familiar with egrets in the US, but I have seen three different species together, along with a Great Blue Heron.

Hello Kim!

Both are Great Egrets. Both have the long, only seen in Great Egret 'gape line',extending beyond the eye, but the obvious size difference might be confusing.
Could it be an Intermediate Egret? The gape line together with structure, notice the similar fashion of the neck kink and lenght of both Egrets here.

So my guess would be that the small one is modesta, and the big one is alba.

I know it looks like a fools decision, with a bill shape like that, at least when it comes to upper mandible, but I have no other option, if the gape line isn´t an illusion. The gape line looks as obvious as in the bigger one.

The one sticking out in the third image in the right corner, which I have a suggestion for, what do you all think that is? Is that perhaps the same species as the small one, despite it´s non existing gape line?

So are alba and modesta sympatric? And if so, do they interbreed, or do they act as seperate species? I don't remember seeing anything that was that small out in the Far East (although I've never heard of modesta before reading this thread!!!), but clearly i missed them.
