Fred Ruhe passed away 17 August 2024 (2 Viewers)

Dear members of the BirdForum,

I am deeply saddened to inform you that our brother, Fred Ruhe, a long-time member of this forum, has passed away at the age of 71 in his hometown of Diemen, the Netherlands.

He left behind a digital manuscript titled:
FOSSIELE EN UITGESTORVEN VOGELS VAN DE WERELD
Met enkele notities over sommige dinosauriërs en moderne vogels

This compendium, which consolidates all knowledge on the subject, presents the state of scientific research as of August 2024. We are seeking a suitable institutional repository to ensure that this resource continues to benefit the scientific community. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Lilian Ruhe

My deep commiserations, sad news to hear. Though his field of knowledge was far from (and exceeded) my area of expertise, I had the opportunity to talk with him on a few occasions - a valued member of Birdforum.

On behalf of all moderators and staff, and I am sure the many members who knew him, I would like to say he will be remembered and we owe him a debt of gratitude.

Many thanks for your very kind words, Jos! It is consoling for us that he was so much valued. Best wishes, Lilian

Thank you James, yes, he always loved to share his knowledge. He left a digital manuscript that counts well over 2000 pages, excluding the images and links, written in a very small corpus. I hope we will find a library or institute that will make it available to everyone interested. I will keep the forum posted. Thanks for your condolences.

Just looking at his post history, it's easy to conclude that he was a font of knowledge and an academic pillar of the BF community! Godspeed Mr. Ruhe and my sincerest condolences Ms. Ruhe.

I am so sorry for your loss, the loss to his other family members and friends, and the loss to the birding community.
