First Swallow,House Swallow & Sand Martin Of 2025 (1 Viewer)

I just saw my first Swallows this morning, three of them over the new Partick-Govan bridge in Glasgow, with a fourth a little later. This is my earliest ever.

No sign of any House Martins yet though. I tend not to see them all that often where I am, just the odd one here and there over the summer.

Last Friday for me but a bit further south! A few Swallows a handful of House Martins and a couple of Sand Martins.

My first Swallow a week ago & another 2 today. No House Martins yet but quite a few Sand Martins over a couple of weeks back at the London Wetland Centre.

I had the first Sand martins of the year at Deeping Lakes, 24th March, neither of the other two yet.

A Robin has taken over one of the Swallow nests in my shed, filled the cup in with a neat little nest of dry leaf and hay bits, I'm concerned how the situation will go if the original owners come back to the same spot again this year.

Mine last Wednesday in South Wales and now there are quite a few around.

I was in the Algarve in late February and they were everywhere - very early apparently. Good summer coming up?

Had my first barn swallow north of Stockholm, Sweden, a couple of days ago. It's been raining since so no large quantities reported in my area yet.

There's a rhyme in my native Finland that would roughly translate:

A month from skylark to summer
Half a month from chaffinch
A wee bit from a wagtail
and none from the first swallow

I find matches the arrival of summer fairly well here too.
