First Brimstone in the garden this morning.

News from North Devon: a friend saw 2 Red Admirals on the wing at Rosemoor a couple of days ago. Another colleague had a Brimstone through his garden in South Molton today, and as the temperature climbs each day in the last week or so I finally had a Small Tortoiseshell in the bird reserve I look after this morning. (Not the species I was expecting though!)

At Osterley garden centre a Peacock whizzing past was my first butterfly of the year.

Eight Brimstones on a short trip to the town centre were my first butterflies of the year.

A Peacock in the garden a bit later.

Red Admiral & up to 4 male Brimstones at London Wetland Centre today.

On Hounslow Heath today my first 2 Comma-one an immaculate specimen while the other had lost most of the scales on one upper forewing. Also 3 male Brimstone, Peacock & Red Admiral.

First Red Admiral yesterday was my actual first. Small (I assume) White today, from the car so can’t be totally sure which white.

Was in the same boat today when I spotted a white from the bus. Almost certainly a Small White.

My first Peacock today (09/03) in S. Hants after a number of Red Admiral already.

After a butterfly free week it was good to see 3 Commas yesterday. A very cold easterly but pleasantly warm out of the wind.

2 Peacocks in my coastal Worthing garden this morning. Red Admiral at Arundel WWT last weekend. If I wasn't working tomorrow it looks like good displaying Gos weather at West Dean (and some Brimstones/Comma etc into the bargain), but sadly I am!

Rocketing temperatures here in N Devon have brought out several Peacocks to join the Small Tortoise-shells.
