Hello to all,
I have joined this forum in the hope of finding more information and/or assistance re endangered species in the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. Specifically I am looking for information, photos and/or illustrtations of the Mindoro Imperial Pigeon, The Philippine Cockatoo, The Mindoro Hornbill, the Mindoro Sacred ( Bleeding ) Heart Pigeon, the Mindoro Blue Napped Parrot and the Philippine Hawk Eagle.
I have property at around 1800 feet at the edge of the Rainforest above Puerto Galera, in the North of Mindoro, and would like to start a breed and release program in the furture. The same people who have been trapping the birds and selling them or killing them could be encouraged to assist in such a program. The first step is for me to do my research and find out if these birds are sighted and where and just how often. Drawings or photographs would be a big help.I have only been able to find a few and the files are much to small to be of any help.
My property is adjacent a small 9-hole golf course and several of neighbours share similar interests. We are gradually encouraging the birds to return and have been lucky enough to have a pair of Serpent Eagles take up residence and breed. So far we have been able to discourage any poaching of same.
Any information or advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Terry Duckham
