Used condom in the water wouldn't be anything unusual around here where they're known as 'Medway trout'...

I like that one Ed & to be honest wouldnt of noticed the so called condom if you hadnt pointed it out. Im not sure what you can do with water colours but could you not just extend the ripples over the patch you dislike. Love the water:t:

Not sure about the floating french letter, Ed, but this is brilliant! I love the capture of the kight on both subjects; it's what makes it all come alive. No pun intended, ahem!

hello all

nice bird-ing versus art-ing moment this weekend

ambled down a track to enjoy some Cranes stalking amongst the stalks of a strip of maize and met two birders coming the other way moaning that the light was crap

happily meaning that it was shining gorgeously in yer eyes from behind the birds and through the top of the maize

hello all- feeling very guilty for not having any fresh meat to post

been tied up with work and family doings, which is the best excuse I guess

but I did see my devilish brother-in-law over Christmas who is always tempting me over to the dark digi-side

here as placeholder is the beginnings of a Spoonie-head on a 3-D modelling programme (Sculptris- a free download and rather addictive), currently with a rather intriguing melted chocolate effect on the part-finished beak

WOW! And this from a free download program? I can see how this could easily eat up several hours, but the results are well worth the time spent. I assume you'll be laying colour and texture on this at some stage?
Also omitted to mention the top quality cranes upthread - crappy light, indeed ;)
Happy New Year - have a good'un!
Ps - who's the satanic Bro-In-Lo? - anyone we know?

I don't know Ed, starting off the year under the influence of a Satanic Bro-In-Lo!;) Sounds foeboding.

On the other hand it's always been obvious, to me anyway, that you love digital art so maybe it's best to give it a whirl again. I will miss seeing your paintings and drawings though if you get too taken by this siren............

no risk of being too taken by digi- no whap and sploosh when applying colour and texture so ultimately unsatisfying

I've electronically pinged the digi Spoonie head in finished form off to a 3D printer to be laser-rendered in orange plastic, so we will see what horror appears in the mail next week

I finally managed a birding moment this weekend exciting enough to try and paint- a gleaming drake Smew on a ferociously windy day, he using the waves to surf into reedy margins

painting done last night under a self-imposed time limit, just to get 2012 rolling

there's a beautifully textured and coloured hole in the reeds no more than 2 metres square that I've been watching on and off weekends over the last few weeks waiting for a Bittern to appear in it, no joy with the reedmeister but the Smew did me the honour of paddling right into it, vortex fishing in it with an effect like washing machine on spin and then swimming out: hopefully another proper painting to be had out of that

it's fun alright and a good test of how well you know your bird and/or how good your references are..

you start with the spherical blob of clay (or ball of silver, steel, whatever..) and pinch and pull it into shape

here below is a screenshot in Sculptris of the version that I ended up sending to 3D print

you can see it in the printshop in the following link, with a specially selected orange colour (which I am probably going to regret when it arrives), rotatable online if you hold your mouse over it.. http://www.sculpteo.com/en/gallery/public/user/edkeeble/
all rather surreal

a Smew made in steel is the most likely next project, but I can feel a White-billed Diver calling me for a bit of the same treatment..
