Hello, is it possible to use a e- reader to put kindle books or other e books to use instead of the phone , or are those e readers only useful for text ??

I have the Kindle App. on my iPad and iPhone.

I generally use the iPad App. for reading while on holiday (don’t want to take the Kindle and iPad away) so generally only see text as I’m reading novels.
But, I have the Kindle version of a field guide in my library and I can see the pictures from that on my iPad (in colour) but they appear black-and-white on the actual Kindle.

I don’t know whether any of that is any use !

Although Amazon sell the Kindle Fire tablet which does have colour and can be used as both an e-reader and a tablet.
Maybe that’s what you are looking for ?

What do you actually want to do? To use your phone to read Kindle books and other ebooks with coloured illustrations? This is straightforward using appropriate apps.

Dedicated e readers, Kindle, Nook etc. Will display photos but are lower res and black (or rather dark grey) and white (or rather light grey).

I have used a field guide once on my e-reader (a pdf file), but while it is possible, it is a pain in the ass compared to a tablet, as navigation is much more tricky, zooming is more tricky and the quality of the b&w pages is much lower. So would not recommend it...

I think one takes it as read that, given the size of the screen, reading any detailed book on a phone is going to have its problems. But, against that, you trade previously-unimaginable zero-weight portability - and I've got lots of field guides on my phone (high-quality PDFs and one Kindle book) and I'm jolly glad to have them there.
