RM's Continued

Managed a distant shot of the kingfisher as it crossed the pond, also not quite sure of the smaller bird in image 2.

Visit to Hetton Bogs this afternoon, sat in the company of JBee & Spuggy followed by a late visit from CW, had a great chat and good laugh, very pleasent afternoon.

Anyway nothing out of the usual but the light was quite nice so it was a pleasure to click the shutter a few times...

Hello, I am Andrew Kinghorn, when I am at Sixth Form at Park View I sometimes go down while I have frees, I usually see the Kingfishers.
I find it hard to beleive their there.:t:
My first Kingfisher was at Chester-le-street.

Hobby juvenile present at Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park again this morning. Still around when I left at 12:30. Looks like the same one as last Saturday. Being mobbed by Kestrel and Crows. Maybe after dragonflies again as plenty of Hawkers around still.

Also Kingfisher on main pond with Canada Goose x71. Redwing x15 passed overhead heading west. Jay x2, GSW x1, Goldcrest x5 in a group in an alder tree with Blackcap x2 and Willow Warbler. Grey Partridge a whopping 29 - seen in groups of 15, 7 and 7 at widely different locations.

Little Owl x1 back along cycleway.

Photos: 1.& 2. Hobby - 2. Common Hawker - 4. Black Darter - 5. Jay

I went for a long walk today and where Lambton Cokeworks (circa 4:34) was, there was about 50 lapwings and about 100 gulls all came up into the sky, obviously being flushed. Is there a big lake or something there now and if so, is there any chance of getting there ?

Peregrine Flacon, Great Lumley, 12:50ish. - UNUSUAL.
Maybe that's what flushed them.

There is a large "tank" to help with controlling water on the site, although the plovers & gulls congregate to roost & loaf on the large level areas (rather than water being an attraction)
Supposedly, theres to be several pools when the development is complete....

No access to development site, no surprise there.... you can either sneak in on a weekend - a few holes carefuly cut out of boundary fence (though security guards are surprisingly fleet of foot) or there are one or two spots were you can view in with scope

(recently been 300 Lapwing & several hundred gulls on the Cokeworks, Peregrine, Buzzard & Sparrowhawk are seen over there on virtually a daily basis)
