Hi all,
I have lost my Nikon neck strap and need to replace it. I was wondering is there anything better than a standard neck strap, bearing in mind I and extremely fat and disabled.
would a sling be better or ????
TIA

I am not the slimmest person by any means. I use the black rapid sling type strap. I really like that I don’t have the pressure of the camera and large lens all on my neck.

I have a Harness for my Camera and Lens, with the 600mm lens my neck would be in agony after an hour or so, now I can wonder around for hrs with no problem, think there are lots of options, quick google should sort you out, but I highly recommend getting one!!

I prefer the Peak Design Slide.
It is broader and seems to give more cushioning across the shoulder.
I honestly didn't realize there was more than one type. I just Googled if for Shrek.

I actually have the Slide myself but I can't find it. I don't use it very often but maybe you can answer this? On mine the rubbery anti slide strips to my mind are on the wrong side. When it's clipped onto the camera and the buckles are on the outside the rubbery bits are also on the outside. Doesn't seem right to me.

Note to Shrek, ignore the "Leash' version and go with the one Acid John suggested the "Slide".

I just had to put it on, yes you are right on the rubber position which I do not use preferring to carry the camera on my left hip or behind in the centre of my back. . With me I have it connected to the camera with one end and the lens with the other.

Whichever type you get make sure it has a safety strap that will catch the camera if the main connection fails.

Or rig one up yourself. I attached strong fishing line between my camera and strap. I've managed to twice catch my camera on its way down after the connection failing. I never realised my reactions were so quick but I wouldn't want to rely on it again. So definitely what John says.

I use a Blackrapid.com harness, which allows me to carry 2 cameras, one on each side. This is useful for when both a long lens for birds and a standard 50mm for plants, scenery etc are needed without changing lenses. The wait is distributed across the sholders, rather than just the neck with a standard strap. It also saves having to have camera in hand when the neck feels the weight too much. Additionally, I also have a scope rig that is worn like a rucksack from Orniwelt.de that has pouches for cleaning cloths, a fleece, a waterproof, flask etc. They work well together, if I don't extend the tripod legs. With the legs even partially extended on the lowest extention (to fit my height with the first two fully extended) the legs tend to bump the long lens camera on my right side. The only thing I wanted for the Blackrapid harness is somewhere to hang my binos onto rather than have them around my neck.
