deer and other wildlife (1 Viewer)

So that's my problem - I keep losing suet right and left!
I'VE tied knots, bows etc and still they get it out - looking for barbed wire!! Loved your tale of the deer vs. racoon Marianna! I've had a similar experience with turkeys. I'm surprised at how timid deer are when confronted by smaller critters!!

Actually, Sara, I think I'm a little early in regard to baby raccoons....I never see the first ones with their moms until June or even early July...so I think I have confused courtship (!!!) with lactation! Yikes!

Maybe these frisky raccoons I saw last night were boys feeling ...well...."frisky"???

Actually, I dug out a book and checked on raccoon courtship and mating behavior, and I find that the courtship begins in February in this part of of the country, and arrival of babies is about 2 months later.

Interestingly enough, some other critters are getting started (or continuing) with some irritating habits....chipmunks apparently chewed through my five-month-old tv and broadband cable!

And so it continues....)

I had a chipmunk encounter yesterday - while getting grain for the deer/birds I saw movement in the birdseed. When I put a pail in to dig out - whatever - a large chipmunk leaped out right in front of me - missing me thank goodnes - I'm not sure what I would have done! Glad to know your info re: racoons - guess I'll have to bring in the suet each night - they seem to be awake for the season!! Too bad re: your cable !
