Sorry for the poor photos (originals but cropped) but I saw this as it flew up from an embankment and it was too fast for me to get a decent shot.

It made a 'squeaking' sound and darted in flight left to right/right to left.

Looking at one of the photos I can see a pale 'shoulder' so thinking 'common'.

Its a Green Sandpiper

No white in the wing and an extensive white rump - Green sandpiper is a better candidate.

Very cool. Always nice birds to see. One other thing that supports green sandpiper is the flight behaviour you described which is very different from common sandpiper which will flutter off low across the water.
