I am addicted to Youtube's Country Life Vlog, narrationless videos of life on a family farmstead in the Shahdag Mountains. The middle-aged couple have livestock, dogs, cats, and two tame crows. The latter are fun to watch. Their fascination with wood ranges from matchsticks to cooking spoon-sized pieces of kindling, which they will rearrange even when the wood is at the edge of a cooking fire. They fearlessly tease the poultry and smaller mammals, who all seem to regard the crows as the bosses.
Cooking is the major focus. The unseen cameraman is an adult son who was a hotel chef in Baku until Covid ended his job and he returned to his mountain village. Aziza, his mother, cooks mostly outdoors, and always in massive amounts. ZERO measuring takes place, nor any sign of a timer or clock. A couple of years ago, videos showed her husband, Hormut, constructing a large "village.kitchen" building with indoor woodfired ovens and running water. It is apparently on or very near the farmstead. Presumably there is some form of bartering involving cooked and preserved foods, with no indication of refrigeration, indoor plumbing, or a power grid. Flowering plants abound year-round, thanks to several small greenhouses..
