Is it bird, bug, or critter? I have seen several posts dating back 7 years asking about this and everyone says "poor-whil". It's not - at least not from the various recordings I've heard through Google links. Nor is it "fox" - same source. Too high pitched for hog.
The sound starts at late dusk, and starts a chorus of similar sounds. The second "whrew" is a slight tone lower than the first. The sounds repeat with maybe a second or 2 between calls. They appear to move fairly rapidly, and seem to be in the trees, so I think "bird".
The forum does not support uploading the MPEG4 format of my recording - if you would like you can download it from my corporate website (or if someone can tell me how to convert it to mp3, I can upload it):

there is one file NightSound - click on that and it will download. Play it (headphones and full volume will help). I know asking you to download an unknown file is risky, but your virus checker should examine it for safety.
I am truly befuddled - so if anyone can solve this mystery, please do!!
Thanks to you in advance!
