Hi folks

looking for advice as usual. having recently upgraded my lens am now looking at doing the same for the camera in the next few months (possibly not until after christmas) however i currently have the 450d and am seriously looking at the 50d. wont have the budget for the 7d or the forthcoming 60d so this looks like the logical next step. what is the general opinion of them good and bad. many thanks
Neil

Hi Neil,
I went from the 450d to the 7d but did seriously consider the 50d. They felt very similar in hand, both were nicely balanced and felt good quality.
The 50d will be pushed downwards in price probably now by the 60d which will make it an even better buy. The extra FPS from the 450d will be a huge bonus in keepers for bird photography, as you can adopt the 'spray n pray' policy in awkward situations, and hopefully come away with something :)
I kept my 450d though as back up, I now use it with a macro on and carry both. You will also have micro adjust on the 50d for making sure your lens are as sharp as possible on it, which is a big bonus.
Go for it, I'm glad I did.

I went 450d - 50d - 7d if I tell the truth, I really liked the 450d when I look back at the images I took with it I was impressed, I did not enjoy the 50d as much, but hey the 7d is something else.

I went 450 to 40D.... used one for $600....a great option if you can find one with few shots and in good shape. I am happy with it. I looked at both the 40 and 50D and the 7D and decided not that much of a difference between 40 and 50 and 7 was out of my budget. The money savings between 40 and 50, can be used for something else as the 40 takes great shots.

The 40 is a fine camera but does not have micro af adjustment. I think Neil it could be worthwhile looking arond for a good secondhand camera. If I could afford it the 7D would be my choice. Expect these to fall a bit in price as Xmas gets closer, new ones that is.
