Brown bird, black throad, red head? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,

I live in New Jersey, the United States. I saw these two birds I've never seen before. They were mostly brown and a bit white, had a black throat and a bit of red head. I took two pictures. I would've taken better ones but they flew away. They were kind of frumpy and were a bit smaller then a chicken.

Extra hint. I saw them digging up on an old tree stump. That's also something I've never seen before from local birds.

Yes, they are flickers and are lovely birds. They were eating ants I suspect.
